October 2026 Art Show awards
Local artists were scheduled to be recognized for their work in the October 2026 Art Show, celebrating the city's creative community.
Concert in the Park success and turf protection
The city's biggest event of the year drew 13,500 people — double last year — with strong satisfaction and smooth operations. One concern: kids riding bikes on the turf field, which Commissioner Uy wants addressed with clearer signage to protect the playing surface.
Public art representation of South City's communities
Commissioner Uy pushed for permanent public art honoring the city's Asian American, Filipino American, and Italian communities, not just one-time gallery shows. Staff noted new art mostly follows capital project funding under the city's 1% art ordinance, and Commissioner Chan suggested keeping a wish list of mural sites so neighborhoods and nonprofits could help fund them.
Sign Hill letters temporary red, white and blue painting
The city will temporarily paint the historic Sign Hill letters in flag colors for the nation's 250th anniversary, with a July 4th parade and picnic as the marquee event. It's a one-time approval — repainting white is planned for the fall, and staff said repeated paint changes would degrade the sign's historic integrity.
