5 issues in roads with medium priority
Traffic engineering services contract
Because of budget-driven staffing cuts, the city relies on a consultant for traffic engineering; the Council was to extend that contract another year for up to $170,000.
Traffic improvements at seven intersections
Extra design money for safety upgrades at intersections along California and Southern Avenues, funded largely by a highway safety grant.
School-area traffic congestion at Adella and Tweedy
A parent described dangerous, gridlocked exits near the school complex at Atlantic and Tweedy and asked for lane markings and a signage study; staff said a traffic engineer is already evaluating a second exit lane.
Beaudine Avenue preferential parking district
A new permit-parking zone bans street parking on Beaudine from 4-10 p.m. weekdays, with about $60 annual permits and $1,500 in gas tax funds for signs. Residents say two permits per household is too few for big families.
Southern Avenue bridge extension grant
The city won a $500,000 grant to plan a multimodal bridge over the LA River connecting Atlantic to Garfield, and will pursue $5-8 million more for later phases.
