Hillsdale mall redevelopment environmental review
Roughly a dozen speakers, led by Checkpoint Hillsdale and BHNA, demanded the city require a project-specific EIR for the Bohannon Group's Hillsdale redevelopment rather than relying on the General Plan EIR. A project representative said project-specific studies will determine the right CEQA path; the council took no action — the item was not on the agenda.
Heritage tree removal at Edgewater Isle
The Edgewater Isle Master Association appealed the former Parks Director's denial of a permit to remove twelve heritage cottonwood trees at 1950 Vista Del Mar. The hearing would decide whether those mature protected trees come down — a question of property needs versus preserving the city's heritage tree canopy.
Climate Action Plan implementation and emissions tracking
The city's yearly report card on cutting greenhouse gas emissions shows real wins — solar carports, EV chargers, electrified buildings — but commissioners flagged gaps: no greenhouse gas inventory since 2019, staffing constraints, and questions about whether programs reach the most climate-vulnerable neighborhoods.
