Failed Federal Grant for $17 Million Gun Range
A resident called out the city's second failed application for a federal grant to build an eight-lane, $17 million gun range, estimating $250,000 spent chasing it. He argued the city should pursue smaller, cheaper modular ranges instead, since even if the grant came through, the city would owe roughly $5 million and $500,000–$600,000 a year to operate.
Automated license plate recognition (ALPR)
The Police Department was scheduled to present on automated license plate recognition technology. Residents interested in surveillance technology and privacy would want to follow how ALPR might be used in Redondo Beach.
No more sworn testimony before the commission
Commissioners learned that applicants are no longer sworn to tell the truth before testifying, a change made in July. They objected strongly and sent the question to staff and the city attorney for answers.
Police patrol fleet replacement
The city was set to buy six 2027 Ford Police Interceptor SUVs for the patrol division at a total cost of $560,083.
