6 issues in public safety with medium priority
Mayor's Office Responsiveness to Residents
Resident Caroline Hunt publicly criticized the mayor's office for not answering repeated emails over a five-month proclamation request, saying she called seven times just to get a decline. She asked for a mayor willing to communicate with the public.
E-bike and motorized mobility device ordinance (Chapter 13.77)
New rules for e-bikes, e-scooters and electric skateboards were adopted on the consent calendar, adding definitions, operating areas, parking rules and parental responsibility provisions to the municipal code to address growing safety concerns around fast, quiet devices in parks and school zones.
Wood chipper safety device compliance by city contractors
A 34-year resident says the city adopted a 2021 ordinance requiring safety devices on wood chippers, but city contractors — including West Coast Arborist — keep operating without them, exposing the city to liability. Council Member Kirwin asked staff to examine whether the local rule is redundant with state and federal safety law.
Potential Litigation Against or Involving the City
The council met privately with its city attorney about one potential lawsuit. Until a case is filed or the city announces an outcome, residents won't know who's involved or what's at stake.
Navigation Center operations under Salvation Army
The Salvation Army reported residents moving toward jobs, sobriety, and housing exits, drawing praise from Council Member Kirwin.
Fire Department Operations
Placentia's fire department is apparently saving the city a ton of cash while also doing a better job. Good news for taxpayers!
