Open fires ordinance for parks
The proposed ordinance regulating fire pits, BBQs and bonfires ran into fierce pushback: the 15 mph wind limit could make the new marina fire pits unusable, existing park barbecue areas don't meet the buffers, and residents called the rules burdensome. The council chose to open the fire pits now under city manager rules and rework the ordinance.
Youth Advisory Commission seating
Two new youth commissioners were appointed so the commission can reach a quorum and start regular operations — teens now have a formal voice at City Hall.
Buchanan Park pond loop replacement
A sinkhole appeared over failing 1980s-era storm drain pipes at Buchanan Park this spring. The council awarded contracts to replace the pipes and fix the damaged pond pathway before the rainy season.
City ballet classes competing with local business
A local dance studio owner objected to the city launching subsidized ballet classes at the Marina Center one block from her 12-year-old business, without any partnership outreach.
Library funding and Monday closures
A retired teacher urged the council to restore funding that would keep the Pittsburg Library open on Mondays, saying literacy and research access are vital for kids and adults.
Port Chicago Trail medallion at the California Theatre
Pittsburg is joining the Port Chicago Trail, with a historical medallion to be installed in front of the California Theater in Old Town.
Central Harbor Park and boat launch completion
The $4.2 million waterfront refresh — new restrooms, fire pit, fish cleaning station, accessible paths, and police substation — is officially done and open. A boater asked about restroom hours and fire pit access.
