3 issues in development with high priority
New SAVES facility — financing and construction
Palmdale is finally moving the long-delayed SAVES relocation forward: a $6.43 million HUD-backed loan, a $621,345 metal building purchase, and a groundbreaking set for October. The bigger site on 3rd Street East means more food storage, program space, and capacity for low-income residents.
Chimbole Center/Library Renovation Project Phase 1
The $30.7 million rebuild of the fire-damaged Chimbole Center got tabled because procurement documents were emailed to councilmembers the day before the vote — 2,562 pages of them, some members couldn't even open the link. It'll come back October 6.
Affordable housing at Avenue Q and 4th Street East
A 272-unit apartment complex is moving forward on 9.8 vacant acres in northeast Palmdale after the council amended its density bonus agreement. That means hundreds of new homes — and new residents — on a currently empty site.
