3 issues in business jobs with medium priority
Hotel and tourism growth
The council created a subcommittee to explore growing the signature bike race, which drew nearly 700 racers and thousands of spectators. Race director Ernie suggested a Friday evening race and aligning 2027 dates just before the Redlands Classic to boost tourism.
Market Nights 150-foot expansion and downtown merchant impacts
The expansion closes C Street and adds vendor capacity, drawing about 7,000 attendees per event, but some brick-and-mortar owners say the closure costs them revenue. The council pushed staff to fix confusing merchant right-of-first-refusal language and look at ways businesses outside the event zone — like Mays — can participate legally.
Backyard Bottleshop & Taproom Permit Modification
A neighborhood bar in Margarita Square wants to serve spirits and host private events until 2 a.m. The real debate was whether alcohol sales should be allowed until 1:30 a.m. on event nights or cut off at midnight — the owners promised midnight, but the permit as written says 1:30. Commissioners also weighed police staffing and what happens if the business is sold to a less careful owner.
