Wildfire Evacuation Readiness and Training
The county's wildfire office reported on its year and laid out its 2026 work plan, and the Board signed the Western El Dorado County Community Wildfire Protection Plan — a voluntary roadmap, not a binding rulebook.
Local Hazard Mitigation Plan and 2027 Emergency Operations Plan
The committee formed a new working group on emergency safety and high water in the Coloma Valley, chaired by Natalie Haber with Courtney Laird — a direct follow-up to the flood-prep briefing.
Wildfire Resilience and Wildlife Habitat
Mountain lions came up repeatedly — an Alpine County issue, a Sacramento Bee article, SB 1305 on grizzly reintroduction, SB 1135 Wildlife Coexistence Act, and a possible local educational event. Growing local interest in how people and lions share the landscape.
Winter Storm 2026/27 Preparedness
SMUD and the County Office of Emergency Services briefed the committee on how dams and emergency response will handle a potentially wet winter. Residents and river users in the Coloma Valley have a stake in how high-water events are managed.
South Fork American River management and boating rules
The Board upheld the Planning Commission's approval of moving whitewater user-day allocations between river outfitters, ending Emmett Cartier's appeal.
Election Results
Election results are rolling in for South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County, and the outcomes will decide who runs local government and which ballot measures pass. That matters because those choices can change your taxes, public services, and leadership priorities.
County Election Results
El Dorado County’s supervisor races and Measure S now have live results, and they’ll decide who runs county decisions and whether that ballot measure passes. If you vote or care about local policy, this is the scoreboard to check.
El Dorado & Diamond Springs Design Standards
New design standards and zoning amendments could shape how future development looks in the El Dorado and Diamond Springs communities. The Commission heard community testimony and pushed the decision to August 27.
Automatic License Plate Readers in El Dorado County
Residents packed public comment to oppose the Sheriff's Flock/Vigilant camera network, calling it mass surveillance that violates the Fourth Amendment. The Sheriff defended the program, citing crimes solved and monthly audits, and no board action was taken.
Black Rice Road solar security gate dispute
A private road association wants a solar gate at the Black Rice Road cul-de-sac to stop dumping, trespassing, and cut-through traffic. The Nichols family, whose home fronts the cul-de-sac, says the gate and a row of trash cans impose all the downsides on them and want mitigation like screens or relocated receptacles.
2028-2029 Community Needs Assessment
A 239-response survey from the Kids Expo identified youth programs (35%), housing and homelessness (14%), and child care (8%) as top community needs. A new ad hoc committee will turn those findings into a CSBG discretionary funding work plan if money becomes available.
New sheriff appointment
Eric Palmberg will take over as Sheriff/Coroner/Public Administrator when the office opens up December 26, 2026, serving the rest of the term through January 2029.
Caldor Fire rebuilding timeline
The Caldor Fire resiliency and rebuilding ordinance got a new expiration date of October 1, 2029, giving fire survivors more time to finish rebuilding under the relaxed rules.
Older adult services funding and proposed budget cuts
HHSA applied for a veteran-focused Transient Occupancy Tax grant to help pay for meals delivered to homebound veterans 60 and older, and new Medi-Cal claiming units were approved to bring in additional funds.
TBID Civitas contract progress
The Commission got a first look at a plan to create a Tourism Business Improvement District, which could let tourism businesses pool funding for marketing and destination improvements. It was received and filed with no action taken.
Commercial project at 1063 Magua St
A proposed commercial project needs TRPA special use permit approval and county commercial floor area — 8,209 sq ft total, with up to 5,009 sq ft from the county out of 31,920 sq ft available under the Meyers Area Plan. Neighbors came out to weigh in.
Environmental review adequacy for Carson Creek tributary
Commissioner Williams pressed hard for a full EIR, saying the site drains within feet of Carson Creek and home to protected species like western pond turtle and golden eagle. Staff and the applicant's biologists argued the mitigated negative declaration with 35-50 foot buffers is adequate.
Business Drive open storage lot appeal
Commissioners wrestled with whether prime R&D-zoned land should keep hosting self-storage. With five facilities within 4,000 feet and an El Dorado Hills job-housing imbalance of 52,000 residents to under 5,000 jobs, most commissioners said no — but the zoning code currently allows it with a permit.
