8 issues with high priority
El Niño and storm season preparedness
With an El Niño year forecast and coastal flooding called certain, the town has cleared creeks, opened sand stations, and run care-and-shelter training — but most creeks are privately owned, so residents and HOAs need to do their part.
American Red Cross disaster sheltering services
Danville's community centers are now officially American Red Cross approved shelters, strengthening the town's disaster readiness network.
Sycamore Valley Road rehabilitation and Diablo Road Trail
The multi-use trail is 60 of 72 piles installed, aiming for a September 15 concrete deadline and out of the creek by October 15. After traffic complaints, the town added flaggers and pushed the morning start to 8:30 a.m.
E-bike safety in Town parks and trails
The e-bike ordinance adopted July 7 took effect in early August, requiring riders to walk e-bikes in parks. Police outreach at every middle school on the first day of school drew zero negative complaints from parents.
Use of Low and Moderate Income Housing Fund for low-income apartments
The council approved a grant from the town's Low and Moderate Income Housing Fund to Community Resources, Inc. for affordable housing at 100-200 Beech Street. This puts town housing money directly into building below-market-rate homes in Danville.
Town construction boom and department staffing shortages
Major projects are underway town-wide — affordable apartments, townhomes, a senior living facility, and the Diablo Road trail — while Development Services operates short-handed in every division. Residents can expect more construction disruptions through the winter.
Outdoor Restaurant Seating Ordinance Update
Danville has allowed restaurants to expand into outdoor seating under a temporary COVID-era ordinance. This session reviewed how that program is working and what comes next for patio dining downtown.
Art in Public Places Ordinances
16 painted fiberglass hearts will be displayed in downtown businesses late January through mid-March, with a passport program and a March 25 auction. Proceeds go back into the town's public art fund.
