Residential Readiness Program Phase III Code and General Plan Amendments
The city is proposing sweeping updates to zoning, general plan designations, and municipal codes to streamline housing production, comply with state laws, and implement housing element goals. Residents and developers raised concerns about the compressed review timeline, lack of neighborhood outreach, and specific impacts on areas like Pomona Lane.
Lindo Channel Wildfire Risk and Encampment Mitigation
Dry vegetation, hot summer weather, and numerous cooking and warming fires in homeless camps along the Lindo Channel have created a severe wildfire threat to adjacent residential neighborhoods. The city council debated whether an emergency declaration would allow faster cleanup and enforcement, while balancing legal settlement constraints and the risk of displacing campers into other creeks.
City Manager Recruitment
The city council hired a new permanent city manager, Gillian Haen, after a lengthy search while addressing public concerns about transparency, vetting, and compensation packages. Assistant City Manager Erik Gustafson was also appointed to step in as interim manager during the transition.
